Submission guidelines
Rankin Ledger
Rankin Ledger invites readers to help tell the story of Rankin County by submitting photographs and community news items, including event notices, school news, weddings, births and achievements. Community news and photos appear in the Get Published section of www.rankinledger.com and in print as space is available.

PHOTOS TIPS:
Submit photos online through the GetPublished section of www.rankinledger.com. Click on Submit Photo.
If you are submitting an article with the photo, please click on Submit Article, which allows you to submit a photo and article together.
The caption must include the complete name of the school, the first and last names of each person pictured, when and where the photo was taken and any other relevant information.
Please give teachers' first and last names. For example, "Susan Smith's first-grade class" rather than "Miss Susan's class" or "Miss Smith's class." Also, be sure to give the full name of clubs or activities, not abbreviations that readers might not recognize.
Identify everyone in the picture from left to right, beginning with (front row, from left) and moving back to (second row) etc.
Count names and faces to be sure everyone is identified. We cannot publish photos if everyone isn't identified.
Pictures with fewer people are best. The captions are easier to write and the photos look better.
Be sure names are spelled correctly.
If you are using a submitted photo to promote an upcoming event, make sure to include the date, time and place of the event. If there is a cost, include that as well. If pre-registration is required, let us know that, too, and how to register. Also include a contact person and telephone number for readers.
COMMUNITY NEWS ITEMS:
To submit community news items, click on Submit Article in the GetPublished section of www.rankinledger.com.
When writing community news items, be as specific as possible. Always include the time, date and location of meetings, for example. Don't use abbreviations that will be unclear to readers.
Be sure to include a contact person and phone number, so we can call if we have questions.

Plan Ahead
The popular Plan Ahead calendar is a great way to share information about a coming event with thousands of Rankin Ledger readers. Priority is given to events in Rankin County and events sponsored by nonprofit groups such as civic groups, libraries, schools and churches. Submit events as far in advance as possible – it often takes about 10 days from the date of submission for an item to first appear in print. Be sure to include the type of event, date, time, cost and a phone number readers can call for more information.
School news
Rankin Ledger welcomes news items and photographs recognizing the work and achievements of Rankin County students. School news items and photos are published online as soon as possible and are generally printed in the order they are submitted, as space is available. For specific tips on submitting school-related items, e-mail news assistant Amy Waite at news@rankinledger.com.
Weddings and engagements
Engagement and wedding notices with a Rankin County connection are published free of charge on www.rankinledger.com and in Rankin Ledger. To submit a wedding or engagement notice and accompanying photo, click on Submit Article in the GetPublished section of www.rankinledger.com. Connections include current residency, residency of parents or grandparents, school attendance/graduation or employment. The photograph may be color or black and white. Notices must be submitted at least three weeks before publication date. No publication date is guaranteed. Deadline for submitting wedding notices is three months from the date of the ceremony. Rankin Ledger has the right to edit for length, accuracy and newspaper style.
Birth announcements
Birth announcements are generally accepted only on a form provided by hospitals. Please be sure to ask if the hospital will send the form directly to Rankin Ledger. If not, you'll need to submit a copy by mail to 2001 Airport Road, Suite 207, Flowood, MS 39232. Please note: Both parents must sign the announcement and include a contact number for the announcement to be considered for publication.
Achievements
Business awards or recognition from civic groups are other types of achievements published on www.rankinledger.com and in Rankin Ledger. Use the Submit Article feature in the GetPublished section of www.rankinledger.com to submit the announcement and photo, if available.
Obituaries
Obituaries are accepted only from funeral homes. If you have questions, please contact news assistant Amy Waite at news@rankinledger.com.
