Local celebrity, author and everyone’s favorite meteorologist is the headlining event for the Adult Summer Reading Program at the Pearl Public Library.

The program, which began June 2, runs through July 10, at the Pearl Public Library

With Literary Elements as the Adult Summer Reading theme, the library fittingly presents local author, Barbie Bassett, to share her inspirational writing.

Widely known as WLBT TV3’s weather forecaster, Bassett will be discussing her most recent release, which was published in 2011, “Carry an Umbrella When There’s No Rain in the Forecast: 365 Days of Living by Faith,” at the library’s Brown Bag event on Fri, June 27 at noon.

A book signing will follow her presentation.

“We are so excited to have Barbie as part of our Adult Summer Reading Program,” said Eleanor Jones, the library’s reference librarian and coordinator of adult programming.

“It’s a real honor to have her share her newest release with us. We wanted to celebrate Adult Summer Reading in a memorable way while doing something very special for the valuable community this library serves. Everybody loves Barbie!

“This is a great opportunity for people to come, meet her for free! You can’t beat that! You can buy a book, and she’ll sign it for you. That would be something to treasure forever!”

Bassett said via email, “Pearl has always been one of my favorite cities because of its people. They are so genuine and true to who they are. I couldn’t be happier to share lunch with readers there at the library. Speaking to groups and conventions gives me an opportunity to share things I wouldn’t normally get to share on television.”

Raised on a farm near Marks, Bassett, the youngest of four children and mother of three, has a host of accomplishments under her belt.

She’s WLBT’s first Chief Meteorologist and serves as the national meteorologist for American Family Radio (AFR).
